Whether you're just starting to explore your legal career or preparing for your Call to the Bar, our programs are built to provide you with a solid introduction to the practice of law and support your growth every step of the way.

SUMMER STUDENT PROGRAM
Program Overview
Our Summer Student Program offers first and second-year law students enrolled in an accredited Canadian law school leading to a J.D. or LL.B degree the opportunity to work alongside experienced lawyers on real files in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. You’ll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience.

What We Look For
We look for summer students who are curious, motivated, eager to learn, and interested in an immersive legal experience. Strong academic performance is important, but we also value practical judgment, clear communication, and a genuine interest in our practice areas. Successful candidates take initiative, work well as part of a team, and approach new challenges with professionalism and enthusiasm.

What to Expect
Summer students at our firm gain exposure to a broad range of practice areas and benefit from mentorship from both associates and partners, with each student assigned a mentor to help integrate them into the firm and ensure a valuable summer experience. Students also have opportunities to attend client meetings, discoveries, and court proceedings, as well as participate in social events and networking opportunities. Throughout the summer, students receive feedback through mid-summer and end-of-summer reviews to support their professional growth.

Nature of the Work
Summer students at our firm will gain hands-on experience conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and contributing to the firm’s website by writing informative blog posts. Students will be exposed to a variety of practice areas, gaining a broad understanding of the legal profession and a real insight into life at a law firm.. The program is designed to challenge you, develop your skills, and give you a practical foundation for your future legal career, all while offering opportunities to learn from and collaborate with experienced lawyers.

ARTICLING PROGRAM
Program Overview
Our Articling Program is a comprehensive, ten-month experience where you'll build on your academic foundation and deepen your practical skills. Articling students work closely with lawyers on matters, receive formal training, and are fully integrated into the firm’s daily life.

Beyond strong academics, we value sharp analytical skills, clear communication, and a knack for problem-solving. We value students who demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and a genuine interest in the practice of law, and who are committed to delivering high-quality service to clients. Our articling program is designed to provide a comprehensive and hands-on legal experience, giving you the opportunity to develop practical skills across a variety of practice areas. You’ll be involved in research, drafting, client interactions, and practical aspects of case management, giving you a comprehensive view of life in a dynamic law practice. Expect a collaborative environment where your questions are encouraged, your contributions are valued, and your skills are developed through meaningful work. Throughout your articling term, you’ll have the opportunity to build professional relationships, refine your legal judgment, and prepare for a successful career in law.

Articling students at our firm will gain hands-on experience conducting legal research, drafting memoranda, correspondence, and court documents, and assisting in preparing for client meetings. You’ll have the opportunity to engage directly with clients, and observe how experienced lawyers approach problem-solving and advocacy. The work is hands-on, and varied, providing a comprehensive understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities of a lawyer.

As a junior litigation associate, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build essential legal and professional skills. The ideal candidate has strong research, writing, and analytical skills; excellent communication and organizational skills; attention to detail; the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a busy office setting, and can think outside the box.

Northern Law LLP is always looking to connect with talented and driven early-career lawyers interested in joining our growing team. We welcome applications on an ongoing basis from recent calls or junior associates (0–3 years of experience) who are passionate about delivering exceptional client service.

Northern Law LLP is hiring one to two summer law students for summer 2026, with work to commence upon completion of the school year in late April or early May.

We are only accepting applications from first and second-year law students enrolled in an accredited Canadian law school leading to a J.D. or LL.B degree.
